Butterfly needs your help to advocate for additional funding from the Australian Government and include Lived Experiences in our request. We ask that you write a letter to your local MP, see details below. Your contribution can help us make a real difference, and help to increase immediate care for eating disorders and expand prevention initiatives.
We aim to use the upcoming Federal election (expected May 2025) and the early budget (25 March 2025) to push for significantly increased investment into preventing eating disorders. Our aim is to request additional government funding for Butterfly that will make a lasting impact over 3 years. This funding will go towards improving treatment and support, early intervention, and prevention programs for eating disorders.
Butterfly is calling for additional government funding to make a difference for the 1.1 million people living in Australia who are struggling with an eating disorder, and the many more who are impacted by body dissatisfaction. With additional funding, Butterfly could expand direct support for eating disorders and improve prevention programs, significantly reducing the financial burden on the healthcare system.
Lived experience voices play an essential role in raising awareness of the importance of preventing and treating eating disorders. You can help make our voices heard as we knock on doors in Canberra, and make meaningful changes to government funding. Your lived experience voices will help position Butterfly as a leading advocate and provider of eating disorder treatment, early intervention, and prevention. Together we can work towards breaking the harmful cycle of eating disorders.
Anyone who wishes to advocate for preventing and treating eating disorders. You may have a lived experience yourself, or you care about someone experiencing an eating disorder. Anyone who understands the effects eating disorders can have on individuals, families, and communities.
Send a message to your local Member of Parliament (MP) about the urgent need for resources for Australians living with eating disorders or body dissatisfaction. You need to include your contact details as MPs are more likely to respond to letters from their constituents when they can verify your residency in their electorate. Feel free to adjust these details to your preference.
If you don’t receive a response within a few weeks, consider calling the electorate office to politely inquire if your MP received your letter!
