Butterfly’s Youth Program is a skills-based group therapy treatment program for young people aged 18-25 years.
This virtual program is for anyone anywhere in Australia.
If you are experiencing symptoms of disordered eating, Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED) and feel you need skills for recovery, this program can help.
How the program can help
The program is based on Enhanced Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT-E) and our clinicians are trained to work with young people living with body image issues and eating disorders. In a safe, supportive and recovery-focused environment they’ll aim to help you:
- Develop skills to manage stress and emotions
- Manage relationships
- Increase mindfulness
- Learn self-compassion
- Improve body image
- Reduce symptoms of your eating disorder
- Build a healthier relationship with food.
How it works
Butterfly’s Youth Program is for anyone living anywhere in Australia and is held on Zoom.
It runs for 12 weeks for a total of 22 sessions.
Times are: 3:30 pm to 5:30pm (Afternoon program) and 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm (Evening program) Sydney time.
Please note groups are held twice a week for the first 10 weeks, then once a week for the final 2 weeks.
This program is currently free thanks to the sponsorship of FGG.

Registrations and referrals are always open. There is an assessment process so please enquire as soon as possible for upcoming programs – we keep the groups small so space can be limited.

During therapeutic group sessions, you will be given the opportunity to explore, understand and gain insights into your thoughts, feelings and concerns around your body image and food.
In supportive food challenge sessions, you will learn skills and coping strategies to help change your behaviours around food.
Butterfly’s Youth Program may be right for you if you meet the following criteria:
- Your age is between 18-25 years
- You have symptoms consistent with Anorexia, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, OSFED, or disordered eating. Read more about eating disorders
- Your BMI is greater than 18
- You agree to be monitored by a GP during the course of the program
- You agree to work with a community treatment team, at minimum a GP and psychologist
- You are self-sufficient with eating and meals
- You are motivated to work towards recovery!
Our Butterfly clinical staff assess all participants to ensure suitability.
