Butterfly National Helpline trials new technology to enhance service
Butterfly Foundation’s National Helpline is looking at ways to ensure it meets the needs of people experiencing an eating disorder both now and into the future, through collaboration in a trial of an online tool, the InnoWell Platform, with Innowell and the University of Sydney.
The InnoWell Platform is a new confidential online technology that people experiencing an eating disorder can use which may help them gain an understanding of what is happening for them, track progress and link with free online options.
Users, who are directed to the platform via the Butterfly National Helpline, can complete free online self-assessments. These assessments cover various mental and physical health issues, including eating disorders, anxiety and depression; they can use these assessments to track progress and to get suggestions on free online self care options.
Juliette Thomson, Manager of the National Helpline explained, “The Platform doesn’t replace the existing Helpline service; rather it works alongside our service which provides brief counselling, information, support and referrals to practitioners with an understanding of eating disorders.”
“Technology has the potential to provide added support for people experiencing eating disorders, and we’re keen to continue to look at ways to test it in safe and supportive ways to enhance our service.”
The Platform was designed with extensive input from people with lived experience and clinicians working in the field of eating disorders.
