Butterfly welcomes Gogglebox and I’m A Celebrity favourite Yvie Jones as new podcast host

Butterfly Foundation, the national charity for people in Australia impacted by eating disorders and body image issues, is pleased to announce television personality Yvie Jones as the new host of its award-winning podcast, Let’s Talk.

Becoming a household name during her time on Gogglebox alongside Angie Kent between 2015 and 2018, Yvie emerged as a voice for the eating disorder community during I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2019, when her refusal to be weighed on national television went viral. Yvie’s powerful speech disclosing her lifelong experience with body dissatisfaction and an eating disorder positioned her as a passionate advocate for inclusivity and sparked a national conversation about our weight and appearance-obsessed society.

In Yvie’s first episode as Let’s Talk podcast’s host, she shares some more details with listeners about her lived experience with Binge Eating Disorder – a serious mental illness characterised by regular episodes of binge eating, without the use of compensatory behaviours. Binge Eating Disorder is currently the third most common eating disorder in Australia, impacting 21% of people with eating disorders (Paying The Price Report, 2024).

Yvie says, “Eating disorders and body image issues are something that are very close to my heart and I’ve found education and information so powerful in helping me get a better understanding of my eating disorder and how to deal with it. Butterfly Foundation is one of the best resources we have and I’m really proud to be working with them to bring you episodes filled with knowledge, education, relatable content and emotional wisdom.”

Butterfly’s CEO, Jim Hungerford, says it is this lived experience that makes Yvie the perfect host for Butterfly’s popular Let’s Talk podcast. “We’re so excited to have Yvie on board as our new podcast host. By generously sharing her own lived experience and using her podcasting expertise to give a voice to the stories and insights of others, we hope that Let’s Talk can continue to make a real difference in breaking down misconceptions, reducing stigma and encouraging help-seeking through open and honest conversations.”

In Yvie’s debut episode she interviews practicing GP and author, Dr Preeya Alexander, to discuss the vital role that GPs can play in supporting people living with body dissatisfaction and eating disorders. They also discuss the importance of recognising the early warning signs and building trust with patients through compassionate and culturally sensitive language.

Now in its fourth year of broadcasting, Butterfly’s Let’s Talk podcast, funded by Waratah Education Foundation, connects listeners with experts, people with lived experience, their loved ones and families to support recovery from eating disorders and body image issues. Let’s Talk was the winner of the 2021 Mental Health Service Sound/Vision Journalism Award.

The latest episode of Butterfly’s Let’s Talk podcast, entitled ‘A GP’s guide to navigating eating disorders with compassion and care’ is now available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and Deezer (or wherever you get your podcasts.)
