Body Image – Educate and Support

Audience: Educators and professionals working with young people

Session Length: 3hrs (2hrs virtual)

Format:  Face to face and Virtual

Size: 45 maximum

This evidence informed session increases understanding of body image and its role in wellbeing, disordered eating and eating disorders.  The session foucses on the modifiable risk and protective factors that shape young people’s body imge and provides comprehensive information and easy to use tools to support body image education, early identification and response.  Participants explore how attitudes, languge and environments can either protect young people or increase risk. Clear guidance is given on what helps, what to avoid and what to do when concerns arise.

  • What body image is and how it changes across childhoold and adolescence
  • Current research and how body image concerns present in different genders
  • The continuum of body, eating and exercise attitudes and behaviours
  • Key risk and protective factors underpinning body dissatisfaction and disordered eating

  • The influence of every day language, peer culture, school environments and digital spaces
  • Responding to concerns with confidence
  • Practical tools and resources to support body image eduation and early identification
