Courage In The Darkness
As a young person living with Autism and PTSD, I have always struggled to comprehend and manage the personal impacts of my eating disorder. For the last three years, it continues to be a prevalent part of my story. Leg cramps, chest pain, shrunken stomach, significant weight loss, low or no appetite- a part of me felt embarrassed and scared to reach out for help as my ability to function and actively participate in my daily activities became increasingly difficult.
Thanks to the endless love and support of those close in my life, I found the courage to connect with professionals, such as the Butterfly Foundation. In sharing my story, I hope to spark a voice for a community that struggles. Many Australians are not alone in struggling with eating disorders, which can develop in people no matter their age and background, so reaching out for support is one of the bravest things you can do to promote self-recovery and community awareness.
