I will hold your hand, intertwined with barbwire.
I will protect you, the monster in your head instead of under your bed.
I want you safe, perilously pushing you over the edge.
I will catch you when you fall, kicking you whilst you are down.
I will always love you.
I hate you, always

I am your protector, like a thief in the night.
I am your guide, departing you from the illuminated path.
I am your generous, sensitive heart, dark, cold like an icy winters night.
I am your voice, your articulation, manipulation until you are silenced.
I will always love you.
I hate you, always.

I know what is best for you, to disarm, to destroy you.
They don’t know you like I do, they know you more.
I render you voiceless when you are saying too much, to domineer, to supress you.
They don’t know me like you do, they know me more.
I will always love you.
I hate you, always.

I am your friend, masked as a foe, lying, cheating, stealing.
I am your best friend, antagonist, stabbing you in the back, asking why you are bleeding.
I am your body, until you are a corpse.
I am your intellect, until you are a fool.
I will always love you.
I hate you, always.

I am your soul, until light is dark in those celestial eyes.
For better, until you are broken, bruised.
For worse, until you are irrational, inert.
I am you, until you are me.
I hate you, please don’t leave me.
