Ten Years Later
I’ve been struggling with eating since I was 16 years old. While it took me a year to recover from anorexia physically, it’s taken over a decade to come to terms with the fact that emotionally and mentally, my relationship with food will always be complicated. That said, I will never let this define who I am, it is merely an aspect of my life that I will continually strive to improve. As an adult, the biggest challenge for me to overcome has been separating my past from my present – focusing on what I’m actually feeling at the time, rather than conflating it with the pressure and struggles of the past ten years. Everyday is a new opportunity to get stronger. While it can be hard to recognise how far you’ve come when you’re having a tough time, the fact that you’re still here, fighting and participating in the journey, is something to be proud of.
