Butterfly Foundation is Australia’s national charity for eating disorders and body image issues, providing a voice for those affected and the people who care for them. Eating disorders are severe and complex mental illnesses with physical complications, and the medical, psychological, physical and social consequences can be long term and for many, life threatening.

Butterfly advocates for improved services from government, health and mental health organisations, and the eating disorder sector, raising awareness in the media and via community engagement. Butterfly runs Australia’s only national Eating Disorders Helpline, seven days a week; evidence-based clinical treatment and support programs; and delivers prevention initiatives in schools and the community to combat negative body image issues.

About the Role

The Business Analyst works with staff, management, SLT and external vendors to identify business needs and translate them into practical process, system, or business solutions. The role supports continuous improvement by analysing current practices, defining future requirements, and enabling the successful delivery of initiatives that enhance organisational efficiency and outcomes.

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Engage with internal stakeholders and user groups to gather, analyse, and document business needs and functional requirements.
  • Analyse current processes and workflows to identify opportunities for improvement and greater efficiency.
  • Develop clear, fit-for-purpose functional requirements and specifications that define the desired outcomes of system enhancements or new developments.
  • Translate business requirements into documentation that external vendors and technical partners can easily interpret.
  • Collaborate with vendors and project teams to ensure proposed solutions meet organisational requirements, quality standards, and budget/time constraints.
  • Coordinate and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to validate that delivered solutions meet user needs and perform as intended.
  • Support change management activities, including preparing materials and providing training, guidance, and assistance to end-users following implementation.
  • Monitor implemented systems and gather feedback to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure business analysis practices align with organisational strategy, values, compliance standards and Butterfly’s vision and purpose.

Essential

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Business Analyst, preferably in complex or multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in mapping, analysing, and improving business processes, with the ability to identify gaps and propose practical, value-adding solutions.
  • Proven ability to elicit, document, and manage functional and non-functional requirements that align with organisational objectives and strategic priorities.
  • Strong understanding of the systems and software development life cycle (SDLC), including experience working with external vendors or development partners.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual thinking skills to interpret business needs and translate them into clear technical and operational requirements.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and guide decisions across both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate technical information into clear, business-friendly language and develop documentation suitable for a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in aligning business analysis practices with organisational strategy, IT strategy, values, and purpose.
