The National Eating Disorders Collaboration (NEDC) is funded by Australian Government to help build and maintain a nationally consistent approach to the prevention and management of eating disorders. The NEDC also makes evidence-based information accessible to a wide range of audiences across Australia.  The Butterfly Foundation is the auspicing body for NEDC.

The primary purpose of the role of Research Lead is to uphold and drive NEDC’s commitment to academic rigour and evidence, through coordination of research and evaluation activities and research translation. The role also supports the delivery of several other NEDC projects through synthesis, analysis and interpretation of research data to ensure NEDC materials are informed by contemporary best practice and emerging perspectives.


Roles & Responsibilities Include:

  • Contribute to the collaborative practice of the NEDC through implementation of research and evaluation frameworks and activities.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of the National Eating Disorders Strategy 2023-33
  • Deliver quality written output as part of NEDC projects to inform government, sector stakeholders and the general community.
  • Lead the development of specific resources to support translation of research evidence into practice, and support the development of other such resources.
  • Contribute as relevant to NEDC’s project work, including consultation, workforce development and training initiatives.
  • Develop and support implementation of strategies for gathering, analysing and utilising evidence, experience and opinion from stakeholders, including people with lived experience, carers and professionals.
  • Identify emerging evidence and trends in the prevention, identification and treatment of eating disorders, provide updates to the NEDC team, and assist NEDC to provide reliable, evidence based communications to members and stakeholders.
  • Represent NEDC externally including in engagement with community and external stakeholder consultations, and at relevant conferences.
  • Provide oversight of the research and analysis required to produce NEDC reports and position papers, and at times, research and write such reports and papers.
