Body Kind Community Program – Albury

Join us in Albury, on Tuesday 2 April and Wednesday 3 April 2024, for the Body Kind Community Program!

Butterfly’s Body Kind program takes a whole of community approach to supporting positive body image in young people. Encouraging people to be kind to their body and promoting healthy attitudes towards eating and exercise helps young people to thrive at school and in life and protects against the development of eating disorders.

Raising Body Kind Teens

For: Parents and community members supporting teens

When: Tuesday 2 April, 7pm-8.30pm

Where: Online via Zoom

A 1.5hr online session providing practical tips to promote positive body image and healthy relationships with eating and exercise in the home.  Importantly it guides on what to look out for and what to do if you are concerned about a young person and explores how being a Body Kind role model is not only good for yourself but those around you.

Please note:

  • Although designed for parents/care-givers of teens those with younger children may also benefit from this session.
  • We kindly ask that children/teenagers do not participate.
  • Content is focused on prevention. For those caring for someone with an eating disorder and looking for support we encourage you to contact our Helpline for information, support and referrals.

Body Kind Leadership Workshop

For: Students in Years 7 to 9

When: POSTPONED TO TERM 3 

Where: James Fallon High School, Albury

A 2.5hr workshop bringing small groups of students (4 per school) to educate and support them to be Body Kind leaders amongst their peers and in their schools. Students will learn about and discuss body image influences before planning and creating a Body Kind communication to share back at school.

Please note:

  • This is not designed as an intervention for students at risk of body dissatisfaction.
  • Students of all gender are encouraged to attend as well as those confident in implementing activities with their peers.
  • Registration must be by a staff member. One registration per school. 1 registration = 4 participating students.
  • Student groups must be accompanied and supported during the event by a member of staff.

Creating a Body Kind School Culture

For: School Leaders and Wellbeing Teams (Primary & Secondary)

When: Wednesday, 3 April 4.00pm – 5.15pm

Where: POSTPONED TO TERM 3

A 75-minute session which explores how by challenging some of the strong cultural beliefs around eating, weight and health we can better support young people, ourselves and the people around us. Staff are guided through 6 practical strategies to support body kindness in the whole school community.

Learn about the do’s and don’ts of:

  • Talking about appearance, bodies, weight and food
  • Educating around body image
  • Selecting learning activities and resources, particularly in relation to food/eating
  • Responding to students’ body image concerns
  • Role modelling to students, colleagues, everyone!
