Eating disorders and body image issues are complex health problems with research and treatments constantly evolving. However, we know that keys to recovery include access to competent and compassionate care, along with integrated supports that promote hope for help-seekers. Butterfly offers a range of support services for your clients.
Butterfly can also help you to meet your professional objectives for better health outcomes. We provide general guidance on eating disorders and service options and, if you are new to working with eating disorders, we can help you to:

Services that complement primary and intermediate care
Butterfly facilitates support groups and programs that create opportunities for people with eating disorders and body image issues to learn helpful skills, connect with others with shared experience, and find hope and inspiration for their recovery.
Support groups
Butterfly’s Virtual Recovery Support Groups are facilitated by trained peer facilitators who have lived experience of an eating disorder themselves. Anyone over age 18 from anywhere in Australia is welcome to attend.
Our Webchat Recovery Support Groups are facilitated by specialist counsellors from our National Helpline. Anyone over age 16 from anywhere in Australia is welcome to attend.
Support programs
Butterfly’s Support Programs offer support, guidance, and tools to help deal with challenges on the road to recovery. Our programs are designed to work best alongside other treatment and care your client may be receiving.
The Emerging Program is an 8-week psychoeducation and skills program for individuals experiencing an eating disorder or who engage in disordered eating. The program is delivered by trained and experienced peer support facilitators.
Butterfly’s carer support groups and programs facilitate helpful self-care, resilience and support skills, opportunities for connection with other carers, and hope for the process.

Butterfly’s evidence-based Collaborative Care Skills Workshop is facilitated by qualified counsellors and provides practical skills for carers to support loved ones living with an eating disorder. The workshop is held on Zoom and is open to anyone over age 18, anywhere in Australia.
Understanding Eating Disorder Recovery is a webinar workshop providing skills for friends, families and other carers to help a loved one recover from an eating disorder. This workshop is open to anyone over age 16, anywhere in Australia.
Next Steps Outpatient Program is a virtual, intensive outpatient program that provides a minimum of 3 hours support per day, 3 days a week, for 8 weeks, led by a multidisciplinary team, for people transitioning out of eating disorder inpatient, residential or hospital treatment.

Wandi Nerida is Australia’s only specialist residential eating disorder recovery centre. Based on the work of Carolyn Costin, our B-FREEDT© model of care employs a best practice approach, including multidisciplinary assessment and treatment plans collaboratively designed with participants. Wandi Nerida’s home-like setting in beautiful bushland provides space for people to connect with nature while working towards full recovery.

Butterfly’s Referral Database lists a range of pre-screened professionals who understand eating disorders and/or body image concerns. These include clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, pediatricians, counsellors, mental health nurses, dietitians, peer workers, coaches, dentists, exercise physiologists, and social workers.
Butterfly Helpline
Butterfly’s National Helpline is open 8am – midnight (AEST/AEDT), seven days a week, excluding national public holidays. We serve health workers, their clients, and other help-seekers by providing information, resources, referrals, and support.
